I found these old Warren Pennsylvania postcards on the
internet. This one show the fancy bridge in central Warren
looking from the hospital side over towards downtown. A
person created a web site that allows you to send them to
anyone you want.
Hope your Mother's Day is a good one. Sorry I cannot be in
Erie to enjoy it with you... but we are going to try and
come up around June 15 !!! ... so we can see you then.

brand new high school was built in my junior year and this

This is the Warren public library, a place where I spent a
lot of time. When I convinced my sister to run away with
me at about age eight, it was here we took refuge from boys
with squirtguns. The librarian recognized us and called my
parents who came to retrieve us. Those are the
disadvantages of living in a small town where everyone
knows everyone else. I will be spending part of Friday
driving around town to find old haunts like this.

Today is the big day of the reunion. The class of '62
reunites for a dinner dance here at the Conewango Club, a
gentlemans club (at least in days gone by.) My dad used to
go here for lunch or a drink after work. I last was here
the night of my senior prom when parents hosted an
after-prom party here. I remember feeling idyllically
happy that night, dancing there, and feeling pleased that
my parents were there too as chaperones. They had been
there many times before, as that was where their monthly
dinner dances of their Dance Club were held. I wonder what
it will be like to be back there 45 years later.

Today I will be riding an old train through the mountains
to see the foliage in the town of Titusville, a town not
far from Warren where oil was first discovered by Drake.
I'll be staying in the Caboose Motel, where the room is
actually an old train caboose. I couldn't resist the
whimsy of it all! I remember scenes like this in Warren,
as there was an oil refinery perhaps a half mile away. The
oil holding tanks - enormous things, would blow
occasionally with horrendous explosions followed by
frightening fires with billowing clouds of black smoke
which shut out the sun.

Today I am going horsebackriding in the wilds of the
Allegheny National Forest. I have so many happy memories
of riding in this kind of country. I can hardly wait!
This postcard gives you some idea what the countryside
around Warren is like. It spans both sides of the Allegheny
River. I have asked for a 3 hour ride. Hopefully my knee
will last that long!

some extras. These are the stalwart front doors of the
Warren National Bank, which served as the trustees of my
parents estates for the many years they required management
before my parents decreed the principal should become mine.
Which explains why, over the years, I accumulated a lot of
Warren National Bank stock.

of going there for pancake suppers alone with my father on
those rare occasions when my mother had taken my sister and
gone off to visit my grandmother in neighboring Jamestown,
NY. I relished the chance to have him all to myself, and to
have pancakes for dinner.

This building is just a block up the street from the Blue
and White, and it too holds memories from when I was a kid.
This building was built before the turn of the century,
and has been in continuous use as a theater (although it
has also seen service as a library, post office, and some
other things as well.) Now it houses live theater
productions, but when I was a kid, it was the movie
theater. - the only one in town. It had a balcony, too.
And newsreels as well as cartoons to accompany the main
feature. But no advertizements, and no annoying
announcements about safety procedures in case of emergency.
On the corner opposite this theater stood the cigar store
where my dad used to stop every Sunday after Sunday school.
He would buy cigars, and the paper, and we would get a
candy bar or a comic book.

This is Warren General Hospital, where my father was on
staff, and was often called out at night to do emergency
surgery to repair fractured noses sustained in car
accidents. This was where I had my first "real" job
(babysitting doesn't count) as a nurse's aid the summer
after I graduated. I earned $40 a week. (better than that
35 cents I earned babysitting!) (Do you know there is no
"cents" key on this computer?! I know there was one on my
old Smith Corona portable! What a commentary on
inflation!) I remember being so nervous my first day that
I was nauseous standing at the nurse's station listening to
morning report. I still remember some of the patients I
cared for here - the sweet elderly lady whose life was
changed forever after a fall and hip fracture in the days
before surgical repair was as successful as it is today.
And my childhood dentist -who died there after a heart
attack.

in beautiful warren pa...the whole place looks like a a
giant winter wonderland postcard..... sometimes i feel like
i am living in a giant snowglobe......the scenic wonderment
of this place..is mainly what drew me back here..the
sunrises on ft.lauderdale beach every morning weren't too
shabby either....but, the magnetic pull of the great white
north won out...if you can imagine a place rich wit all of
the strange beauty of your nighttime dreams.then you know
where i am......is where i am...or at least where i try to
be...i live in the woods along he conewango creek,on a
road less traveled...if it were more remote that would suit
me just fine...life in the slow lane fits me well...and as
far as peace and quiet....i think i just heard a pin
drop...i guess it's a bloom where you are planted kind of
thing.........

What is this hidden container sitting here for? What the
heck is this thing doing here with all these things in it?
It is part of a worldwide game dedicated to GPS (Global
Positioning System) users, called Geocaching. The game
basically involves a GPS user hiding "treasure" (this
container and its contents), and publishing the exact
coordinates so other GPS users can come on a "treasure
hunt" to find it. The only rules are: if you take something
from the cache, you must leave something for the cache, and
you must write about your visit in the logbook. Hopefully,
the person that hid this container found a good spot that
is not easily found by uninterested parties. Sometimes, a
good spot turns out to be a bad spot, though.

girls in her class were talking crap about her in Spanish
right next to her. She turned around and told them off in
Spanish and both were so shocked and embarrassed that they
got up, left and were "sick" the next day. Talking about
someone in another language doesn't make you superior. It
